On July 8th we visited the current home of the American Numismatic Society (ANS) at 75 Varick Street. After signing in with the ground floor security guard, we proceeded up the 11th floor and entered a secure chamber with a large metal doors. A glass window separated us from another security officer who asked for ID and issued us photo name tags. Soon the Museum Administrator, Joanne Isaac, let us into the premises and was extremely friendly and generous in her sharing of knowledge as she led us around their space. It consisted of a small entry hall with display of coins, a large conference room for group meetings, small office rooms, a secure vault area holding their treasures (which was accessed through another double-locked chamber, and which we were not allowed in to) and a library containing over 100,000 books on the study of numismatics. This facility coins one of the best collections of coins in the world (and books on coins). http://www.numismatics.org/
